Meet the Team Behind the Sun Inn
The passion and expertise that have made the Sun Inn Scottish Gastropub of the Year 2011, come from our team of chefs, waiters and bar and hotel staff. Led by father and son team Ian and Craig Minto, everyone at the Inn is dedicated to providing the best service and the warmest of welcomes.
Ian Minto - the Sun Inn's head chef and owner
Ian Minto is the brains behind the Sun Inn's award winning food. He works alongside his kitchen team to develop and cook delicious meals using fresh locally-sourced products where possible. A keen golfer and family man, Ian is a passionate cook who is inspired by the fresh, seasonal raw materials he gets from all over Scotland. Ian reads recipe books constantly and loves travelling to see and taste different cultures
A self-taught chef he has managed and cooked in pubs and restaurants in the UK and Spain. His Spanish restaurant, the Bay Tree, was the place to dine in the Costa Blanca. After Spain, he moved to Yorkshire, where he ran The Gray Ox. Ian brings all of his culinary experience and passion for food to the Sun Inn's kitchen to guarantee you a meal you will remember.
Craig Minto – the Sun Inn's General Manager
Craig Minto is the Sun Inn's General Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the business and for its development. Craig works alongside his father and brings his strong personal vision, and a commitment to excellence, to every aspect of the Sun Inn's management.
Craig was born and brought up in Scotland. After a stint as a computer programmer when he left school, Craig decided to follow his Dad into the hospitality business. He completed his hotel training at a Michelin Star hotel and has worked in the family's pub in Yorkshire and their restaurant in Spain. After four years working together, the father-and-son team decided to open The Sun Inn, in their native Scotland. Craig considers this his most exciting project yet and is dedicated to making it Scotland's finest gastropub.
You can see Craig in action, demonstrating how to make some yummy ice cream and cocktails with a twist.
Maxine Cramb - pastry chef
Maxine Cramb is the Sun Inn's talented pastry chef who conjures up delicious deserts and cakes to delight our diners. Maxine has been interested in baking from an early age and can remember baking cookies with her mum at the age of 5.
With an HND in Culinary Arts with Management from Telford College under her belt, Maxine has worked at different hotels throughout Edinburgh including Dalhousie Castle. Perhaps her sweetest job before joining the Sun Inn was as a trainee chocolate maker at Plasir du Chocolate in Newton St Boswells. Even away from work, Maxine is still crazy about cakes and spends much of her spare time making and decorating cakes for her friends and family.
